Last year I have decided to enter the Moran Exhibition with an Oil on Canvas portrait of Yinca. Yinca is an African Model now residing in London pursuing a career in modelling and acting.
She had a story to tell about growing up in Melbourne ( Australia) and bullying at school.
I wanted to capture her beautiful face in a moment when things were getting serious.
I adopted my new methods with the canvas using material used many years ago by the masters like Giotto, Raffaello, Michelangelo.
The smoothness of the canvas, brings out the face contour of this amazing human being.
Yinca was accepted as a Semi Finalist by the Moran Foundation 2022.

It was 2002 when I decided to do something about what I was quite enthusiastic about (drawing); and hardly had time during the growth on my young family.
I wanted to follow my heart and re-ignite my artistic natural ability. I was confused of what medium I wanted to paint.
I went out and brought a watercolor set, knowing that the watercolor was the hardest medium to learn.
I joined a community group nearby for a few months, but I was not learning what I wanted to learn. I searched a class close by and joined the Whitehorse Arts Association which is still running today.
I met my teacher Nell Frysteen who helped me along and I learned everything I wanted to know about watercolor. She also taught and helped me how to frame my artwork, how to price them and to enter Art Shows because as she said that my artwork deserved to be shown.
To better myself I joined a Life Drawing Class in 2003 to learn how to see shapes and quickly draw the human form.
My Teacher Allan Close was wonderful, he guided me along and suggested that I should do an art course which I enrolled in. It became my night course as I worked during the day. I finished all my courses which helped me immensely to progress and follow my dream.
I loved learning and doing homework which helped me understand everything about my art. I finished my courses in 2005 and was offered to teach for one year.
I went to various Art shows, Demonstrations and at each one I learned something valuable to add to my artistic repertoire.
I also had the privilege to exhibit my own solo and joint Art Shows.
Soon I joined Walter Magilton class in oil painting at his Stony Creek Studio. I have learned a lot and he was fantastic in introducing me to oil colours and canvas and how to paint in open and conservative ways, which was what I wanted. I stayed there two years whilst working in two art shops and learned about all the art mediums to further help the artists that came in. I ended up learning also about ink drawing, charcoal pastel and acrylic at this point so that I could create some amazing artistic designs.
Many artists came in these shops to buy their products, and it gave me an opportunity to meet some amazing artists and further learn from them as well.
I am incredibly grateful to all the teachers and people that helped me to be where I am today.
